Monkee Peter Tork has cancer surgery

Former member of the original 1960s boy band The Monkees, Peter Tork, has a been suffering from a rare form of head and neck cancer, and has had surgery for the disease.

67-year-old Tork revealed the news on his official website.

Peter TorkTork had been operated on in New York on Wednesday and a spokesman on behalf of the star said the surgery had been a success.

Tork is reported to be having a course of radiotherapy after he has recovered from the operation.

The Monkees were first seen on television on NBC in 1966, and were then shown in the UK in series about their antics as a pop group. The band had massive hits with I’m A Believer and Daydream Believer.

Tork explained that the adenoid cystic carcinoma he had been suffering from had been discovered in his tongue but that it was “a bad news, good news situation”, and he pointed out that cancer of the tongue is a very rare occurrence.

Tork also said that he was humbled by all the support he has had from family, friends and fans, and that he is told the outlook for his recovery from the disease is very good.
