Wall of Sound to release A Tribute to The Monkees EP

The Monkees were one of the great pop bands of the sixties and more than the “first manufactured pop band” tag that dogged them for years. The Monkees were dubbed ‘the Pre-Fab Four’ after following The Beatles into mainstream consciousness.

When singer Davy Jones died last year, tributes flooded in from all corners of the music industry, from Johnny Marr of The Smiths to Graham Coxon of Blur.

In the aftermath of Davy Jones’s death, Mark Jones from legendary independent label Wall Of Sound, who shared a surname with the Monkees singer, decided to put together a tribute EP. Mark Jones says “A Monkees album was the first record I ever possessed, and it played a major part in inspiring me to do what I do – and to do what I have done. There were so many dimensions to the band, and their pop sensibility was innovative and ahead of its time.”

The label are set to release a tribute record to The Monkees, the EP will feature four of Wall Of Sound’s principle acts: B.E.F (covering ‘A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You’), Mekon (‘Mary Mary’), Echoes (‘Pleasant Valley Sunday’) and Killaflaw have covered ‘Randy Scouse Git’.

All profits from the EP are going to the Davy Jones Equine Memorial Foundation (DJEMF). Mark Jones (Wall of Sound) met Davy Jones’s four daughters at a recent Monkees convention and agreed this release with them there and then. For more on the charity please visit www.djemf.com.
